EXPERIENCE
Mr. Leman’s practice areas include
corporate law, business law, real estate, construction, employment,
and civil litigation. He has represented Alaska utilities
in substantial litigation over fuel delivery agreements, construction
projects, and business contract disputes. He has also
litigated claims involving the Alaska Wage and Hour Act, sexual
harassment, WARN Act layoff notifications, and state taxation of
municipal utility operations.
Mr. Leman drafts business contracts, corporate documents, and business
acquisition papers for a number of corporate and individual clients. A
significant portion of his practice focuses on helping Anchorage
real estate developers create condominium projects under the Alaska
Uniform Common Interest Ownership Act. He has also assisted
clients in dealing with real property acquisitions, right-of-way
issues, long-term real estate leases and Native allotments. Mr.
Leman serves as a parliamentarian at utility annual meetings and
has assisted clients with drafting board policies, employment policies,
and employment contracts.
Prior to joining the firm in 1997, Mr.
Leman served as a law clerk for Judge Andrew Kleinfeld of the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice Daniel Moore
and Justice Dana Fabe of the Alaska Supreme Court. Mr.
Leman is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts
in Alaska.
EDUCATION
Mr. Leman received his Bachelor of Arts
degree in 1992 from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He
received his Juris Doctor degree in 1995 from the University of
California, Davis, School of Law. During law school he
served as a Senior Articles Editor on the U.C. Davis Law Review. He
was the highest-ranking graduate in his class, and was admitted
to the Order of the Coif. He was admitted to the bar
in the State of California in 1995 and in Alaska in 1997.
